Review of At Last

At Last

At Last is a contemporary romance novel by Jill Shalvis. This book is #5 in the Lucky Harbor series.

HER LOVE HAS COME ALONG . . .  Amy Michaels loves her new life in Lucky Harbor. A waitress in the local diner, she’s looking forward to her first weekend hike through the mountains. But when a wrong turn takes her off the trail, she finds herself up close and personal with forest ranger Matt Bowers. And even though she’s tempted to kiss that sexy smile right off his face, she won’t make the mistake of getting involved with the town heartthrob.

A former cop whose life went south, Matt doesn’t let anyone get too close. But something about the feisty beauty caught his eye the moment he first saw her in the diner. After a hot night under a starry sky, Matt can’t deny their attraction-or the fact that for the first time in a long time, he feels the stirrings of something more. Now it’s up to Matt to help Amy see that, no matter what is in their past, together they can build a future in Lucky Harbor.

It doesn’t surprise me to know that this book, although released 5 years ago, still ranks in the top 100k most popular e-books sold. Considering there are millions of books out there and hundreds of new books added each and every day to Amazon, being in the top 100k is a big deal, being in the top 100k 5 years after your book was released is even more impressive.

At Last brings us the story of Amy and Ranger Matt. In a world so full of billionaire romances, it’s nice to read a story about two normal people, living in a small town.

Amy is a waitress and Matt works as a park ranger. Of course, he’s also former Navy and a Chicago Swat officer making him a super bad ass, but that just makes us love him more.

Sweet little Amy isn’t exactly all that butterflies and roses and has a past of her own. The big part of this story is both of them are learning to let go of their past and learning to trust again. It’s not easy for either of them and it’s what holds them back from finding true happiness with each other.

Eventually, of course, we get to our happily ever after, this is a Jill Shalvis romance after all. But it takes a while for these two to get there.

It’s a nice story that will put a smile on your face in the end.

I’m crazy in love with all of the books in the Lucky Harbor series. If you are looking for a great contemporary romance then this is probably the best series I’ve read in a long time.

All the stories are well written with professional editing and are full of likable characters in a small town that anyone would by happy to call home.
