Pros

  • The writing wasn't all that great, it could have used some major editing and re-writes but in the end, it was a decent enough story.

Cons

  • The sex in this book was damn near comical. She orgasms at the drop of a hat. He says her name and she orgasms. He simply touches her and she orgasms. Yeah that so happens in real life.

When I first decided to make a romance book review blog I knew I needed a great book to kick things off right and what better than Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James?

Before I read the book I admit I read a ton of reviews. A lot of people said you either love this book or you hate it, that there was no in between. I’m sorry but I couldn’t disagree more. I didn’t LOVE this book nor did I just HATE it. It was okay. It really was just one of those middle of the road books that didn’t make me go OMG I MUST READ MORE or OMG I HATED THAT BOOK SO BAD.

It wasn’t really a bad book. It absolutely wasn’t as bad as some people will have you believe. I can also get why they are making a movie about it.  The book is written in a way that sort of cries out to be a movie.

I honestly really don’t like writing bad reviews. I admire people who have the courage to actually expose themselves to the world with their writing.

That being said, it really isn’t a great book.  It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t all that great either.

Reading this book I couldn’t help but wonder about the age of the author. I really would have swore to you that she was a teenager. Turns out I wasn’t alone in thinking this. Others it seems have said something similar in their own reviews.

Would I read it again? Probably, if I was bored one day. Would I recommend it to a friend? Perhaps. Again it wasn’t that bad of a book. It wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read but I enjoyed it well enough. So yeah, I would totally recommend it to a friend.

I will say this, I think this might very well be the first time that I’ve ever found the movie far more enjoyable than the book.
