Her Royal Spyness is the 1st book in the The Royal Spyness series written by Rhys Bowen.

Lady Victoria Georgiana Charlotte Eugenie, 34th in line for the throne, is flat broke. She’s bolted Scotland, her greedy brother, and her fish-faced betrothed for London. The place where she’ll experience freedom, learn life lessons aplenty, do a bit of spying for HRH—oh, and find a dead Frenchman in her tub. Now her new job is to clear her long family name.

This may very well be the best book I’ve read all year. It’s set in London in 1932. Now before you roll your eyes at the thought of reading a historical romance, it’s really more of a romantic thriller than a historical romance. Trust me, I’m not a fan at all of historical romance books but I absolutely loved this book and I’m sure you will too.

Yes it happens to be set back in the 1930s but you’ll soon find you are so swept up in the mystery going on, you won’t even notice that little tidbit. 🙂

The story revolves around Georgina Charlotte Eugenie. She’s a minor royal, some 34th in line to the throne. But despite being related to the King and Queen, she’s flat broke.

This all takes place during the great depression where everyone really has to struggle to make ends meet and that includes the little sister of a Duke who can no longer afford to pay her allowance. She can’t afford servants, she has to learn to cook for herself and do all the things that a normal person might have to do to survive. That in itself in amusing but it’s weaved together in a mystery involving

This book is so well written, you are never taken out of the moment. The writing is top notch and the editing is superb. This is really the way all books should be. The story line is very clever and it artfully mixes in real history with a bit of fiction that streams together perfectly to make a amazing book.

Now the negatives … the kindle version of this book is almost $8. I don’t know that I would pay that much for a paperback version, why in the world would I pay that much for a e-book? A book like this, especially one that came out over 8 YEARS ago, shouldn’t cost more than $3.99 for the ebook version.

The next problem with this book is that it’s part of a series that is only updated once per YEAR. Authors today are releasing books at a much faster pace. This one book a year per series thing is very old school. Someone seriously needs to get with the times.
